For millennia mankind has looked skyward to understand their place in the world and almost every aspect of our society has been moulded by our understanding of the heavens.  In today’s fast paced and over populated world, staring in to the infinite abyss of space is the perfect form of escapism to find peace and solace in the chaos.  Astronomy is the root of everything and to understand it is to achieve the ultimate connection with nature.

Celestial Events SA is based in Hoedspruit and owned by Ben Coley, a Professional Field Guide and Astronomy Educator.   For nearly 2 decades, Ben has entertained his guests with tales of the heavens as a part of their safari experience and has authored FGASA’s (Field Guide Association of Southern Africa) Specialist Astronomy Qualification.

Celestial Events SA was born as a result of an overwhelming interest from people, from all walks of life, who wanted to learn more about the stars and cosmos.

Celestial Events SA specialises in showcasing the African night sky to people of all ages and experience. We offer a variety of astronomical experiences including visual and virtual star gazing evenings, astronomy training for the guiding industry and astrophotography tuition, all guaranteed to leave you starstruck!

We believe in highlighting the cultual and environmental aspects of astronomy.  From how astronomy allowed early man to navigate and establish a society, to the traditional stories associated with the constellations, our Night Sky Safaris take people on a journey of discovery against the most stunning backdrop of them all.

Our equipment is portable so we travel to you, be it at a private residence, a school, or whilst staying at a lodge deep in the African bush.  Regardless of your location, our events will take you on a journey through the stars that will capture your imagination and give you a unique perspective of our place in the cosmos. 

 

We conduct our Night Sky Safaris with a high-powered laser pointer, binoculars and our professional telescopic equipment that offers out of this world views.  Literally!
